TIME Magazine Best Invention - Kara Pure

After living with bacteria-laden well water, Cody Soodeen’s parents suffered a slew of ailments. So Soodeen created a first-of-its-kind device to turn the air’s humidity into up to 10 liters of drinkable, alkaline, mineral-fortified water per day. Similar products have relied on noisy, energy-intensive refrigerants to work their water magic, but the stainless-steel Kara Pure uses natural desiccants—think of the little silica gel packets in shoeboxes—to quietly attract moisture. After launching last December, the device saw over $1 million in sales in its first 70 days.
